Professional Standards of Practice

Shades of Gray, Inc. subscribes to the following professional standards of practice.

Working arrangements • Unless otherwise stipulated, every assignment is considered to have two equal sections; project goals, objectives, budgets and approvals are the responsibility of the client; conceptual approaches, creativity, management, and production expertise are our responsibility. We will respond to the direction, input, criticisms, and comments of our clients closely. At the same time, we will recommend what, in our professional opinion, is the best way to meet our client’s objectives.

Consultation • Except in unusual circumstances, we make one free, introductory visit to a prospective client. Subsequent calls will be part of a billed assignment, unless both parties agree otherwise.

Speculative work • We believe work done “on speculation” — to have the assignment contingent on approval of the work — is subject to widespread abuse, increases prices, and is otherwise unprofessional.

Estimates and proposals • If requested, we will prepare a written estimate or proposal of a project’s schedule, costs, terms and conditions. Pricing is based on an hourly labor rate with frequent reviews of project conditions and additional expenses.

Billing • Our clients have the right to expect that the price on an estimate or proposal, plus additional expenses and taxes, will be the invoiced price unless otherwise communicated verbally or in writing, before invoicing. Our invoiced price is due in thirty days.

Confidentiality • We treat information or material provided to us confidentially,
and all reasonable efforts are taken to safeguard it. If requested, we will sign a
nondisclosure agreement.

Ownership • The final product of the creative solution becomes, after payment, the property of our client except in the case of illustration or photography, or where otherwise agreed to. However, all preparatory materials (artwork, sketches, unused concepts, mechanical files, computer files, etc.) remain the property of Shades of Gray, Inc.

Approvals • It is the sole responsibility of our clients to review all material before production and to attest to its correctness, accuracy, and completeness.

Non use • In accordance with accepted professional services practice, our clients are financially obligated for work done, whether or not it is utilized. In the event of dissatisfaction, we will resign at the earliest date, bill the client for work to date, and make an effort to find another firm to continue.
